Academic background in Neurosciences.
Ana’s interest for research started at The Weizmann Institute of Science in Israel, at the Department of Biological Chemistry and the Radiation Detection Physics Laboratory, where she was an invited student. Later, she obtained her PhD in Biology, under the specialty of Cellular Biology – Neuroscience field – from the University of Coimbra after performing her PhD work at the Neurology and Neurosciences department at Weill Cornell Medical College, New York, USA. From 2011 to 2013, she was Associate Researcher in the Division of Neuroscience, at Burnett School of Biomedical Sciences, College of Medicine, University of Central Florida (UCF), USA. Currently, Ana is the Founder & CEO of NeuroSoV and Assistant Researcher at Health Sciences Research Center- University of Beira Interior (CICS-UBI), Covilhã. Ana has around 15 years of experience in the Neuroscience field, more specifically in PD research. She has a strong knowledge on the role that oxidative stress plays in PD pathology, in experimental models of PD and in rodent models of the disease. This expertise has made her a reference for Pharma Companies and Research Labs, that have relied on her to perform in vivo pre-clinical validations of molecules with therapeutic potential for PD. Ana has a track record of several published articles in international peer reviewed journals, 1 published book and presented her scientific work in several national and international meetings. She participated in 10 R&D projects and so far, filled 1 international patent.
